this is how the worst day of my life went down today, as outlined by our local paper The Advertiser:
Child rescued from locked car
A CHILD has been rescued from a locked car after being trapped inside for about 20 minutes.Police and ambulance officers were called to an ABC Learning Centre at Bedford Park where a three-year-old girl was accidentally locked in a car.
The girl's mother had placed the child in a car seat and left the keys on a seat before getting up to put something in the boot of the car.
At that point it is understood the child locked herself in the car. The mother then rang police and then the child's father who brought another set of keys to unlock the car.
Ambulance Communications team leader Dieter Scheurich said the mother was "more distressed" than the child.
"This was an accidental `lock-in'," he said.
"The mother did the right thing by calling police straight away."
Police then rang ambulance officers.
Mr Scheurich reminded parents that children should never be left unattended in cars.
"You never know how hot it's going to be (in the car) even on a (mild) day like today," he said.
I would not agree with all the facts of this report, for example, she is 2 & a half, I never went to put anything in the boot & Olivia had already pressed the lock button before I had hopped out the car but it didnt register until I had taken the keys away from her, thrown them on the front seat & then closed the door.
Olivia took the commotion quite well but who could blame a 2 & a half year old for being a little upset about being trapped in a seat, in a car while police are trying to "break into" the car & mum is also on the outside trying to hold it together.
Nikki & Jess at childcare were fantastic & I will never complain about paying taxes again because I will never get a chance to properly thank the police & ambulance staff. Oh & who can forget the knight in shining armour..... Neil!!
I love you Olivia & I'm enternally sorry that you also had the such a bad day.
(note to self: never put so much as a hair outside of the car without keys in my hand)
Thankyou

That is so scary! I'm glad it turned out ok. Poor you and poor Oivia!!!
Did anyone ask if Olivia wanted to be "rescued". She was just chilling out in her cone of silence.
The article is fairly harmless. Just imagine if you had been parked in the Arkaba carpark what a field day the press would of had with that.
You're the best mum and Olivia and baby #2 are lucky to have you in their lives.
SCARY!!! That is one of my fears and I am sure it will happen sometime sooner than later. So....I want to hear more about this pregnancy! I am so excited for you... When are you due etc?
You're a mom period. And a pregnant one at that. That means you are doing ten thousand things at once and trying to keep everyhting organized in that sleep-deprived, hormone-drenched brain. You would never end up in the paper if you were in charge of a sack of flour, but you are not. You are in charge of a creative and assertive 2 and 1/2 year old and you are are perfect to be her mother.
Thank you for the lesson in how to NOT buckle children into the car.
come talk to me when you have individually locked 3 of your 4 children in your car....it seems to be a rite of passage in our house.
Good one auntie sharon, that makes me feel like it must be something genetic :)
Well you didn't drive away and leave your baby at church, get home and wonder where the baby was! Yes, Ben was about 3 months old, and we left him on the bench at church and drove home. He was still asleep when we got back to pick him up and the sisters all cooing and I did not have the heart to tell them I had left him and driven home without him...We are mothers and now you will have a newspaper cutting to show her how famous she was when she was little :) Love you A/di
Did I ever tell you about the day I took Kyra, who then was only 8 weeks old, to Seaworld...And of how when you watch one of the shows you have to leave all prams outside of the auditorium.
Well... that's exactly what I did. I parked the pram in the bay outside and took my seat inside, waiting for the show to begin. Now... some time had pasted... I'd like to think it was only a few seconds but I must confess that it was actually minutes... fortunately not hours, when Emma turned to me and said, "Where's Kyra?"
Oh crap I have a baby... I'm a mum... I'm meant to be responsible for something... oh yeah.. that thing is the baby I left parked in the pram!!!!!!
Luckily, there she was fast asleep. Could you imagine the headlines... Thought this might make you feel a little normal. Love you, Dinah xxx
